Dental emergencies are quite frightening and often painful. Prompt treatment is almost always required to alleviate pain and to ensure the teeth have the best possible chance of survival. Sometimes teeth become fractured by trauma, grinding or biting on hard objects. In other cases, fillings, crowns and other restorative devices can be damaged or fall out of the mouth completely. If there is severe pain, it is essential to make an appointment with the dentist as quickly as possible. The pain caused by dental emergencies almost always gets worse without treatment, and dental issues can seriously jeopardize physical health. We are happy to serve as your Denham Springs emergency dentist.
Reasons for Emergency Care
Avulsed tooth (knocked out)
Lost filling or crown
Cracked/broken teeth
Dislodged teeth
Hot/cold sensitivity
What to expect.
After you inform your dental assistant or hygienist of the symptoms you may be experiencing, an x-ray will most likely be taken to check for decay not visible to the eye, or an abscess associated with the root of the tooth. At this appointment, you and your dentist will create a plan of action on how to proceed with the proper treatment. In many cases, if there is active infection your dentist will start you on an antibiotic to treat it and you will be scheduled for your next visit.
